The Interorthodox Centre of the Church of Greece is the educational organization and convention centre of the Church of Greece. It belongs to the Holy Synod and is chaired by the Archbishop of Athens and All Greece. The Centre is particularly active in interorthodox, interreligious, and intercultural dialogue, aiming to strengthen relations among religious communities and promote a society based on mutual respect and solidarity. It also implements European programs and other initiatives aligned with its mission.
In 1969, the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece selected the Holy Monastery of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary, in Pendeli, as the appropriate place to host the Interorthodox Centre. During the years 2003–2005, the Centre was fully renovated and further expanded. It is only 20 minutes away from the national airport and 15 km from central Athens. It can provide hospitality to social partners, business groups, and scientific foundations from all over the world by hosting conventions and other activities for up to 200 people.
Since 2009, and under the authority of the Ministry of National Education and Religious Affairs, the Interorthodox Centre organizes educational seminars and programs for teachers of all grades. Another main objective of the Centre, besides its educational mission, is to foster collaboration and dialogue among Orthodox Churches worldwide. Moreover, by organizing and hosting dialogue meetings—such as conventions, symposiums, seminars, workshops, and visits—the Centre cultivates the mindset to address contemporary multicultural social issues through cooperation and dialogue with other Orthodox Churches, heterodox confessions, and religious traditions. In addition, international participants are offered the opportunity to familiarize themselves with Greek language and culture.
