History and Purpose
The Cultural and Folklore Association "Koziani" was founded in 2005 by a group of friends in Kozani, with the aim of preserving and promoting the tradition and culture of Kozani and Western Macedonia. In 2005, it acquired legal status and began to actively operate by creating traditional dance classes.
Activities
The association maintains six dance classes: three for adults with 80 members and three for children with more than 60 members. In addition, it has a wardrobe with local costumes from Kozani, Roumlouki and the Episkopi of Naoussa.
The traditional dance classes present dances mainly from Kozani, Western and Central Macedonia, but also from all over Greece, while participating in important local and national events.
Events
The club plays an active role in the Kozani Carnival events, being one of the 15 officially recognized lanterns by the Municipality of Kozani. It also presents the traditional lantern event, reviving customs of the region.
In 2017, we organized the "Dance and Folklore Seminar", which attracted dance teachers and lovers of tradition from all over Greece and abroad. Since then, others have followed and continue to follow every year.
In addition, the club celebrates World Dance Day (April 29), organizing a dance festival for children, with the participation of over 2,000 children from all over Greece. This dance gathering is the largest in number of participations and participants in all of Greece.
